The very foundation of education lies in the first six years of child's life. During these years though, children are far from focused on learning. Educators who specialize in this stage of development use learning songs for kindergarten and 1st grade to ensure that ample development takes place. This serves as a foundation for academic excellence in the future.

Psychologists agree that the time spanning from birth to six years old is really the formative period of human development. They assert that during this phase of life, the brain acquires most of the information that it will ever hold. Failure to adequately stimulate the brain during this phase may have serious limiting effects on its future function. Governments and education leaders around the world, in recognition of the crucial importance of this stage make a special effort to ensure that early childhood education is given special priority.

Unfortunately, this period of rapid assimilation is also a period known for immaturity. Children who are in this stage of their development are fascinated by activity. They have short attention spans and are pretty much focused on having fun. This makes the task of educators, whether they are home schooling or traditional teachers, even more unique. They have to find a way to ensure that these young learners assimilate information without feeling pressured, bored or overwhelmed.

Kid friendly songs are one of the many techniques that early childhood teachers employ in helping their students learn. Another technique that these teachers utilize is colorful pictures. These grab the attention of learners and make them curious to find out more about the image depicted.

In addition to colourful images and catchy tunes, educators use a hands on approach to teaching youngsters. This is important because many early childhood learners are actually tactile learners. They learn more by interacting with things in the environment than by listening or watching. Some songs integrate tactile learning with music by focusing on hands on tasks.

The songs are great for children at this age because they are catchy. Their catchy nature makes them appealing to youngsters who will often sing along. In these cases the children become more involved in the learning activity. The constant repetition of catchy tunes increases the likelihood of a learner retaining the content taught.

In hard copy format they are often loaded onto devices such as Cd's DVDs and other storage devices. These tunes are available in pretty much every language. This allows for the language barrier to be removed so that learners from varying social backgrounds can benefit.
